"Ashab-ı Şimal", ne (mutsuzdur o) "Ashab-ı Şimal."

Soldakiler; ne yazık o soldakilere!

Kötülüğe batanlar ise ne mutsuz kimselerdir!

Sol tarafta bulunanlar, sol tarafta olacaklardır.

Eshab-i Şimal ise ne Eshab-i Şimal!

Solun adamları ise, ne solun adamları!

'Ashab-ı Şimal', ne (mutsuzdur o) 'Ashab-ı Şimal'.

Solcular: (Onlar) ne solculardır!

Solcular da. Solcular kimlerdir?

Kötülükte ısrar edenlere gelince, nedir bu kötülük ısrarcıları(nın cezası)?

Sol taraf halkı, nedir sol taraf halkı?

Ashab-ı Şimal ki ne Ashab-ı Şimal! Ne bedbahttır onlar!

Solun adamları (amel defterleri, sol tarafından verilenler), nedir o solcular!

Ve şomluk ve uğursuzluk yaranı. Nedir şomluk ve uğursuzluk yaranı?

Ve bedbaht kesime gelince... Nedir o bedbaht kesimin (cezası)?

Ve solun adamları![1] Nedir solun adamları?

Ve kötülükte direnenlerin yoldaşları! Kötülükte direnenlerin yoldaşları, nedir?[495]

Uğursuz olanlar sınıfına gelince; ne yazık uğursuz olan o kimselere!

Those of the left, will be on the left.

And the Companions of the Left: what of the Companions of the Left?

And the people of the left hand; how unfortunate are the people placed on the left hand.

And those of the left hand; what of those of the Left Hand?

The Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!)

And the fellows of the left - what unlucky fellows!

But as for those that are wretched, how (sad) will be the plight of those that are wretched!

And the companions of the left hand -- how miserable shall the companions of the left hand be! --

And the companions of the Left, what (will become) of the companions of the Left?

And the People of the Left Hand —what are the People of the Left Hand?

But those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) those of the left hand --

BUT AS FOR those who have persevered in evil - what of those who have persevered in evil?

As for those who had deservedly earned the disposition on the left, who challenged Allah and His Messenger, and deviated from the path of righteousness;

Then, the unblessed ones. Ah, how unfortunate are the unblessed ones! (56:9).
